Natural Regions

Research Task

In class you have been working on a project which compares the hot desert regions with either the Tundra and Rainforest. You are to write about the following things for each region (you may have already done some within class);

  • Front Cover – like the front cover for a book – include pictures, title, who has wrote project.
  • Introduction – introducing your project
  • Location – map showing the location of hot deserts and your chosen natural region, a description of where hot deserts are found, a description of where your natural region is found.
  • Climate graph – a climate graph for a city in a hot desert, a climate graph for a city in a rainforest (Manaus) or Tundra (Barrow, Alaska) , describe each climate graph (hottest month and how much, coldest month and how much, wettest month and how much, driest month and how much).
  • Animals – pick some animals for a hot desert (such as a camel) and for your chosen natural region – describe and explain the adaptations they have to help it survive there (try label the animal) – “A camel has a hump. This is to help it store fat which can be used for energy.
  • Plants – exact same thing you did for animals.
  • Traditional Way of Life – write about life in the hot deserts for the Bedouin people (clothing, food and drink, jobs, homes, challenges etc) + then same for your natural region (an Amazon tribe for rainforests or inuits for life in the Tundra).
  • Modern Developments – create a factfile about a modern development which has taken place in the desert (Dubai, Aswan High Dam, The Great Green Wall) + a the same for your chosen natural region (Rainforest – deforestation?, Tundra – TransAlaskan Pipeline)
